Questions & Answers

Questions from The League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County ILO (1)

Do you favor alternative, non-jail sentences for non-violent offenders and what options should be available?
Answer from Debra R. Archuleta:

As a judge, I am bound to follow California State law.  However, I do favor alternative sentencing for non-violent offenders in the form of drug and mental health treatment programs.  I believe this is the future direction of the criminal justice system in California.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

After 25 years as a deputy district attorney for the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office, I am seeking to become a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge to ensure that the laws of the US Constitution and of the State of California are upheld and administered fairly regardless of race, creed, ethnicity, gender or identification of the parties that appear before me.

I spent 3 years prosecuting hardcore gang murder cases, 20 years prosecuting child sexual abuse, human trafficking, domestic violence assault and homicide cases and 2 years prosecuting white-collar criminals. I have the professional background and experience to work to protect public safety and restore integrity in the criminal justice system.

As a Latina female, I feel the Los Angeles County Superior Court should reflect the strength and diversity of the local and state-wide citizenry.
