I, Naser Khoury, am living the true “American Dream”! I came to this great country in 1978 and it has been an incurably fascinating ride since the day I arrived. Not only have I proudly defied the odds of graduating high school, university and a doctorate degree in law, but also becoming a Deputy District Attorney for the largest prosecutorial agency in the world, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office; and now running to be a Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge On June 7, 2016. These incredible opportunities do not usually happen to someone like me, a poor kid from Amman, Jordan, where it would have been virtually impossible to become an attorney in the first place but to also think about running for an elected position as Judge in Los Angeles County, is unheard of.

I live in the greatest country in the world, by far, I enjoy its freedoms and I eat of its fruits. I am married to an amazing wife (Sumi) who is of Cuban dissent for the last 21 years, we have three children Laila who is 18 years old, and is attending her first semester at USC with a bio-chemistry major who wants to continue with her studies to become a doctor. George who is 16 years old, a junior at Heritage Christian School who’s desire is to become a lawyer, like his dad. And last but not least Maggie who is 14 years old, a freshman also at Heritage Christian School, who wants to follow her dream of becoming a doctor, my little girl adores and cares for everyone’s well-being.

God always gives us more than we deserve. But for his Grace and Mercy we have absolutely nothing. I always give credit to the Lord Jesus Christ for everything that happens in my life. I know and believe in my heart that I will be a great judge, I have the temperament and the experience for approximately 25 years as an attorney and I am willing, ready and able to take on this great responsibility. However, I need everyone to support my judicial campaign and to go out and vote. Without votes I will not be able to accomplish this task, many have tried to discourage me from running, but I am determined to do it. There are those who know and believe in my desire to represent the great people of Los Angeles as a caring yet firm Superior Court Judge, yet I believe in giving back to all whom have allowed my continuing to live ‘The American Dream’ with my hard work and perseverance.

Thank you and God bless,
Naser ‘NAS’ Khoury

Questions & Answers

Questions from The League of Women Voters of Los Angeles County ILO (1)

Do you favor alternative, non-jail sentences for non-violent offenders and what options should be available?
Answer from Naser "Nas" Khoury:

I will work hard to keep violent criminals out of our communities and off our streets.  Every case and every situation is different and needs to be heard by a fair and just judge that will uphold the law. I will support alternative, non-jail sentences for non-violent offenders that are fit for alternative programs.  I will exercise when necessary and applicable to non-violent offenders programs such as probation, drug and alcohol rehabilitation, mental health programs, community service and community sentencing and control.  This will not only attempt to resolve a larger community problem, but also alleviate overcrowded jails.
