Biography

I am running for Brisbane School Board to be an advocate for students and a voice for parents.  I believe that a successful educational community is created through the active participation of students, parents, educators, administrators and district residents working together to achieve mutually held goals.  No goal is more important than ensuring that our next generations have the opportunity to grow and flourish.  As a school Board member I will work to ensure that all students are nurtured in a safe and enriching environment and that each student is challenged to fully live up to their own individual potential.

I have lived in Brisbane for six years and am the parent of a Brisbane Elementary student.  I have an M.B.A. focused on Sustainable Entrepreneurship and a B.A. in Sociology.  I am currently the chair of the Brisbane Elementary School Site Council as well as member and past chair of Brisbane’s Open Space and Ecology Committee.

If you believe in offering all of our students the best possible education, I humbly offer to put my energy, passion and experience at their service.  I ask for your perspective on priorities for our schools and request your support in my candidacy for School Board.

Thank You.

Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Answer from Yakim "Kima" Hayuk:

I wil engage with the educational community to socialize the SPSA for each of our schools, how they relate to our district's LCAP and how the LCAP is tied into the Local Control Funding Formula.  We will measure outcomes using the metrics defined in the SPSA.
