Since my election 8 years ago, the Ravenswood School District there has been significant changes throughout the district.

We selected new leadership, provided clear direction and are working with district administration and staff to increase academic rigor, increase community partnerships and parent engagement.

As a board member I have supported partnerships that have increased opportunities for all students. As a result, we now have quality after school services at all sites where students are provided with homework support and enrichment. We’ve also increased the number of students enrolled in summer school.  To support student performance, we are providing counseling services to students and families.  Our schools now offer music and art activities.  Other enrichment activities for students include science fairs, sports teams and field trips.

As an educator, a former district teacher and a long - term community member, I have been able to make valuable contributions to the work of our district. I have worked to improve academics, increase staff professional development, increase parent engagement, and develop a comprehensive facilities master plan.

Over the next four years, our focus on student performance and academic improvements will continue.  We will be working to finalize plans for a comprehensive middle school, upgrade school facilities and address teacher retention issues. I have proven to be an effective board member and would like to continue to work on behave of the children of the district.

I ask for your vote in November. Vote to re-elect Sharifa Wilson to Ravenswood District

Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Answer from Sharifa Wilson:

In addition to being on the school board meeting agenda, we held school site meetings with parents to ensure they were aware of the plan. We hosted sessions during the week and on Saturdays. We also worked through each school site council and the District council. The plan is currently on the district website in both english and spanish.
