I am a life long resident of Santa Cruz County. I married my lovely wife, Anne, in 1979 and we purchased our current home in Live Oak in 1980. In 1987, we were blessed with the birth of our only child, Courtney. I attended local schools and received an AS Degree in Fire Protection Technology from Cabrillo College and a BS Degree in Fire Science with a concentration in Fire Administration from Cogswell College.

I started working at the age of 14, including as Assistant Manager at KMart and Plant Operator for the City of Santa Cruz. In 1979, I began my fire service career, retiring after 33 years in 2012. I held positions as Paid-Call Firefighter, Firefighter, Captain, Captain Specialist, Fire Marshal, Battalion Chief and Assistant Chief. I was a state certified Fire Prevention Officer, Investigator, Fire Officer, and Chief Officer. I was certified to respond across the state of California as a Strike Team Leader, Task Force Leader and Division/Group Supervisor. I supervised several engines at one time or was given a geographical area to defend. I responded to fires from San Diego to the state of Oregon.

I taught for the State Fire Marshals Office and the Regional Occupation Program. I stay in touch with the fire service by teaching as a Fire Science adjunct instructor at Cabrillo College and serve on their Safety Committee.

Political Beliefs

Political Philosophy

I feel strongly about open communication and encourage anyone, employees or members of the public, to contact me or the other Board members with concerns. I will work to insure financial responsibility and transparency.

Sound financial planning is paramount. While insuring that financial obligations are met, it is important that Central Fire's staff are the best-trained and educated firefighters that the public expects and deserves. I will work hard to see that district goals are met.
