Questions & Answers

Questions from League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Answer from Alex Vara:

As a parent of students in the Redlands Unified School District I would encourage creative methods in ensuring that parents have a voice and let them know that their input is important.  I would emphasize the importance of collaboration and hold town hall meetings asking parents to get involved in the planning process of the LCFF.  The LCFF allows school districts to use district funds in a variety of strategies to meet the needs of all students. Based on district pie charts it seems that we need to increase parent involvement at the LCAP meetings.  By increasing parent participation together we can meet the needs of all students.
