Biography

A Fullerton resident for 45 years, an alumnus of Fullerton High, and a masters graduate from Cal State Fullerton, I will be honored to serve as your Board of Trustees representative.

For 21 years I’ve owned Cafe Hidalgo, recognized as business of the year by the Fullerton Chamber of Commerce.  I’ve taught music in the Fullerton elementary district and am currently a business instructor at Fullerton College.  My wife and I are the parents of a freshman at Fullerton High and a seventh grader at Parks Jr. High.

As an educator, I will promote more innovative and life-skills learning, maintain music, art and vocational studies, strengthen our special needs programs, and encourage fair wages for teachers, administrators and staff. Using my experience in business, I will ensure responsible spending to meet both short and long-term goals, while recognizing and respecting those paying the bill. As a community leader, I will foster collaboration among parents, teachers, and stakeholders, and explore new ways to connect students across all educational levels.  As a parent, I will fight to keep our schools safe and secure.

For fresh eyes, a strong voice for our students, and a forward vision for learning, vote Mike Oates for Board of Trustees.
