What tangible plans do you have for addressing the lack of affordable housing and housing projects in the county? How will you deal with frequent neighborhood opposition to affordable housing projects?
Respuesta de Dennis Rodoni:

Neighborhoods must have a strong voice in all development proposals that affect them.  Neighborhoods are most likely to accept second units and junior units (extra rooms for relatives).  I support making it easier to get approvals for these units.

Larger developments must include an element of afforable housing.  These projects are best accepted if they fit into the scale of the neighborhood.  There must be strong and active community involvement in the approval process for these developments.  The county should play an active role in improving communication between those seeking approval for their development, and affected neighborhoods.

I would work with communities in county jurisdiction when affordable housing is proposed to make sure the development meets community stanards. Neighborhood concerns should be resolved so that the project is acceptable to all parties before final approval.

The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is scheduled to start picking up passengers late in 2016. What, if anything, would you change about the SMART train roll-out so that it could be fully functioning as soon as possible?

Although some coordination between local transit operators and SMART is taking place, the transfers need to be more seamless, and better promoted.  To increase revenue, SMART should work with businesses in Sonoma County to subsidize trips from Marin to Sonoma, so the trains will not run empty northbound in the morning, and southbound in the evening.

What transportation plans do you have to address the worsening traffic gridlock?

First, we must avoid unwanted high density development which makes traffic worse.  I support the following:

Making full use of the Richmond San Rafael Bridge

Widening Highway 37 between the Raceway and Vallejo and raise the highway to fight sea level rise.

 Promoting pedestrian safety, increased use of bicycles, use of school buses, use of county staff to direct weekend traffic in West Marin, and improving public transit as an alternative to driving.

We must provide better means of transportation for seniors who cannot drive.


Is Marin County prepared to handle any kind of disaster that might strike the county? What coordination is planned between cities and the county?

Marin County has inadequate disaster planning.  There should be better coordination between the county and cities.  The cell phone text alert system is barely used.  The County needs to promote it.  Climate change increases the risk of fire and major storms.  Earthquakes remain a serious threat.  This whole subject will be a major priority for me on the Board of Supervisors.

What is your position on ranching uses within the Point Reyes National Seashore boundaries?

I strongly support continued ranching at Point Reyes National Seashore, and I support completion of the Ranch Management Plan. I support 20 year leases for ranchers in the park. I have asked that litigation regarding the Ranch Plan be dropped.

Dennis Rodoni supports continued ranching at Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.





My family at one time owned one of the ranches which is now part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, and ranching in West Marin is dear to my heart. I am proud to have the support of many West Marin Ranchers.  I strongly support completion of the ranch management plan and implementation of the 20-year leases necessary for the continued operation of those ranches within the Point Reyes National Seashore and Golden Gate National Recreation Area. I urge the Park Service to continue with planning and environmental review required for this to happen. Ranching is critical to Marin’s economy and community character.



To maintain this viability we need to bolster the county’s relationship with the federal government. I served as member of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (GGNRA) and Point Reyes National Seashore (PRNS) Advisory Commission and I know how to work with the ranchers, the Seashore, and responsible conservation groups to find solutions that work for all.
