Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of Marin County and California Counts, a public media collaboration (5)

What tangible plans do you have for addressing the lack of affordable housing and housing projects in the county? How will you deal with frequent neighborhood opposition to affordable housing projects?
Respuesta de Mari "Mari Mack" Tamburo:

Let's take inventory of existing structures and see what is feasible for conversion to live/work near transit before building our way out of the housing crisis. More building = more traffic.

Opposition indicates a project that does not fit the community plan. I would encourage respect for community plans and environment. Bring stakeholders into the process early on to gather ideas and tap into community creativity, become aware of potential concerns before too much is invested in an inappropriate plan.

The Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is scheduled to start picking up passengers late in 2016. What, if anything, would you change about the SMART train roll-out so that it could be fully functioning as soon as possible?
Respuesta de Mari "Mari Mack" Tamburo:

I would increase connecting transit to and from the SMART trains.

What transportation plans do you have to address the worsening traffic gridlock?
Respuesta de Mari "Mari Mack" Tamburo:

Use technology to assess problem areas/choke points and design a flexible system, i.e., OK to use shoulders during peak hours.Encourage staggered work hours, four day work weeks, telecommuting.

Is Marin County prepared to handle any kind of disaster that might strike the county? What coordination is planned between cities and the county?
Respuesta de Mari "Mari Mack" Tamburo:

Of course, we can always improve upon current systems and procedures. As we face sea level rise and changing weather patterns, it is up to each and every one of us to be prepared. Communication is key to organized collaboration and coordination of emergency services.

What is your position on ranching uses within the Point Reyes National Seashore boundaries?
Respuesta de Mari "Mari Mack" Tamburo:

I would encourage the ranchers and environmental groups to work together to ensure stewardship of our natural landscape. Permaculture and biodynamic farming practices protect biodiversity, so I would like to see these best management practices used wherever and whenever possible.

“I’m running because I care about people and the planet and I want to give voice to the creative and lower-income residents of Marin,” she said. “There is a widening income disparity and we need someone who understands the needs of this sector.”
