Biografía
Nick has a unique blend of in the classroom, coaching, administrative and systems level experience in the education sector. In each of these roles, Nick brought a critical lens to ‘equity for all’ and worked relentlessly to develop innovative programs and sustainable structures that provide every student equal access to knowledge and the opportunity to thrive.
As a middle school teacher in Oakland Unified, Nick taught over 500 students, leading these scholars to algebra proficiency scores that doubled the district and state averages. As an instructional coach, Nick led a strategic planning effort to further access the world of instructional technology that concluded with a $200,000 grant. Additionally, Nick developed a program for Oakland’s expulsion students that led to a 200% increase in passing the high school exit exam, landing him one of Oakland’s Quality Teaching Awards in 2010. In his current role, Nick works with over 40 Title I K-12 school districts in California (totaling 500,000 students) to ensure all students have access to rigorous instruction that provides them a life of opportunities.
Nick was a standout Division I soccer player and graduated from the Robert H. Smith School of Business at the University of Maryland with an additional focus in Sociology. He received a Master’s in Education from Alliant International University in San Francisco. Nick is a proud Oakland homeowner, living in the Oakmore neighborhood with his wife Kelly and son Jude.
