  • Improved communication between teachers, administration, and the community;
  • Enrichment in regard to creative writing, media arts, and school format radio, including broadcast journalism instruction

Profesión:Pension Consultant
Representative from District 3, Pescadero Municipal Advisory Council — Cargo elegido (2001–2012)

American Society of Pension Professionals and Actuaries Certified Pension Consultant, ERISA regulations (1995)
Holy Names University B.A. , Major in Biology, minor in Chemistry (1968)

Member, Pescadero Municpal Advisory Council (PMAC), from 2001 through 2012

My main focus on PMAC was to improve and foster the relationship between PMAC and the County Board of Supervisors, County Departments and outside stakeholders who had an impact on our community.

Owner/CEO,  Peery & Associates, Inc.  1997-to present

Peery & Associates, Inc. manages retirement plans for businesses, nonprofit organizations, cities, and associations.

Treasurer,  Butano Canyon Mutual Water Company, 1994 – 2000, and again 2012 to present.  I am blessed to live in Butano Canyon on the outskirts of Pescadero and feel an obligation to give back to my community, and to understand its water system and roads.

I’ve lived in Pescadero since July 1989.  I’ve been here for the disasters:  the earthquake and freeze of 1989, the flood and mudslides of February, 1998.  I have experienced first-hand how neighbors come together in times of need.

Treasurer, Pescadero Foundation since 2001.  The Foundation sponsored our first big town planning workshop in 2004.  I have been very motivated to solve the affordable housing crisis in our community for teachers ever since we lost two very good teachers here in the late 90’s due to commute issues.

The community is now preparing for a new town planning process, and I am involved in that as well.  Again, teacher housing is one of the primary motivators for me, but the needs of farmers for workforce housing has also become critical.

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (1)

A recent law made major changes in the way that the state allocates funding to schools.  What will you do to ensure that the public understands your local control formula for school spending and your plan to measure outcomes?
Respuesta de Catherine M. Peery:

Informing the public, and fostering better communication between the School District and members of the community is an important priority for me.  One approach I hope to take is participating in a local radio news show that would keep parents, teachers, and the community at large informed of any major issue being addressed by the District or within the District by its stakeholders.

Creencias poliza

Filosofía política

The basic philosophy I bring to this position is simply to value, support and facilitate respectful and transparent communication between all involved to help solve some serious problems, including lack of funding for the programs we need, lack of certain types of support for teachers and the administration, and the lack of a process within the District for soliciting, vetting, and incorporating the willing support of nonprofits and others for school programs that would help retain students, support teachers, and relieve administrative burdens.
