Biografía

Scott Spielman's leadership experience began as a Sergeant in the Army where he worked as a Military Police Officer at the Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers in Europe.  Scott graduated from Fresno State and McGeorge School of Law. He began working in the Kern County District Attorney's Office in 1994 after passing the Bar Exam on his first attempt.  During his time in the office, Scott has personally tried 105 felony jury trials, including 21 murders, 20 sexual assaults and a dozen other violent felonies. Scott has spent his career trying to make changes wherever possible in order to make the justice system work better for victims of crime.  After representing multiple families that had suffered the loss of a child at the hands of a drunk driver, Scott partnered with the mother of a drunk driving victim to change the law.  Together, they wrote a law and lobbied the state legislature to close a loophole that allowed repeat drunk drivers to avoid the punishment of second degree murder when they killed while driving impaired.  Scott has also volunteered his time teaching advocates at the Alliance Against Family Violence. When Scott saw a need for Mock Trial coaches at the high school level, he stepped in and began coaching a local team.  Additionally, this was Scott's 20th year officiating high school football games. For the past 7 years, Scott has served as the Assistant District Attorney, serving alongside District Attorney Lisa Green in all aspects of running the office.  Scott has handled the budget, personnel issues, office policies, and twice served as the interim Director of the Crime Lab.  Scott is also responsible for running the office when Lisa Green cannot be there and has appeared as the District Attorney's representative in front of the Board of Supervisors on multiple occasions.  While serving as the Assistant District Attorney, Scott saw an opportunity to better serve the citizens of Kern County by establishing programs that would keep individuals out of the revolving door of the justice system.  Two examples are the Veterans' Diversion Court which helps military veterans suffering from PTSD handle their case with compassion and efficiency and the Kern County Mental Health Court which is the first one of it's kind in the county. Scott has the experience, leadership ability, and knowledge to lead the District Attorney's Office.  In this uncertain time of budget reductions, the District Attorney's Office needs a leader who has the knowledge and experience to continue to aggressively prosecute all crimes despite all the cutbacks in funding.  Scott is prepared to be that leader.  For these reasons and more, District Attorney Lisa Green, Sheriff Donny Youngblood, Retired US Congressman Bill Thomas, 2 County Supervisors, a host of Chiefs of Police, business leaders, farmers,a nd neighbors endorse Scott to be the next District Attorney.
