Mis 3 prioridades principales

  • School Safety - our kids need to feel safe in the classroom. I will continue to push for increased safety measures, including greater collaboration with our local law enforcement agency and our own school security officers.
  • Fiscal Responsibility - we will continue to be fiscally responsible and transparent, as well as creative in ways to save the community money, as was done with the refinancing of bonds that saved the community $3.5 million.
  • Better Facilities - I will continue to push for getting more funding for our facilities, to ensure our kids have the best educational access and opportunities for success.

Experiencia

Biografía

Paul Solano has served as a board member for the Bassett Unified School District since 2001, when he was elected at 22 years old.  He believes in setting high academic standards for the school district, which represents a high English language learner population, as well as most students/families needing free or reduced lunch.  Aside from pushing for high academic standards in the school district, Paul has also championed environmental causes and energy conservation as a school board member.  Bassett High School became the first school in the San Gabriel Valley to install an artificial turf field to assist with water conservation.  Similarly, through the district’s Solar Energy Program, 70% of the District’s energy use has changed from electric energy to solar power, at a reduced and fixed cost.

Paul was also voted into the California School Boards Association’s (CSBA) Delegate Assembly by school board members in the region to represent them in the Statewide organization.  He was also voted to be a Director-at-Large for the California Latino School Boards Association.

He has experience in the legislative process and with municipal law through his work as a Legislative Analyst for a law/lobbying firm.  He also worked in city administration as a Grants Administrator ensuring that public dollars were spent efficiently and that they directly served the needs of the community.  He moved into the private sector working for the largest grant writing company in California, where he wrote numerous grant applications that were successfully funded.  That success led to him being promoted to become the Southern California Director, in charge of client retention and business development for the company.  His experience there led to him starting his own grant writing company in 2015.

While working full-time, he attended East Los Angeles College (ELAC) where he received his Associate of Arts degree.  He transferred to the University of Southern California (USC) where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, becoming the first in his family to graduate from college.

Paul also actively raises money for a variety charities.  He has raised thousands of dollars for various local and national charities including the Heart and Soul Foundation, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the Wounded Warrior Project.
