I sympathize with kids in our district, so many of whom are English learners. As an immigrant child myself, I left everything I knew growing up when my parents brought me to this country. Like so many members of our community, they came here to give their children a better life, a better education, and I benefited directly from that. I am proud to say through perseverance and hard work, I became the 1st in my family to graduate from college, USC and UCLA.

I am running because I see opportunities our children might miss out on because our school district is facing losing millions based on our proposed estimated budget of 2019-2020. We need progressive, innovative candidates to ensure that the 6300 students we serve, 16% of which are categorized as homeless, 1000 kids, don’t miss out on the opportunity to fulfill the American Dream. Many need a progressive and innovative candidate to help them escape the cycle of poverty they were born into.  As a homeless liaison for a community, I understand those issues that plague our underserved students. But I am not an advocate for the underserved alone, I am here to also to expand the absolutely great work my district board members have done. According to the California Mental Health Connection, the number of mental health issues in our schools is increasing, and this is going to harm our children’s chances of success. That’s why I support the following things:

Expanding reading and financial literacy programs

Ensuring our students have adequate mental and emotional support

Enhancing parent and community involvement and anti-bullying programs.

Raising school performance by increasing accountability and ensuring teachers have the resources they need.

And responsibly managing the district’s multimillion-dollar budget and our bond dollars.

In closing, I’d like to say parents and teachers are the backbones of our community. I came here not speaking a word of English, and because of the support I received from my parents and very special teachers, who made me feel like I could succeed no matter the obstacles, I am living the American Dream. I am passionate and I have tools to help move this district forward by continuing the mental health services for our students, provided financial literacy so they could break the cycle of financial challenges, expand anti-bullying programs, and most importantly raise the bar for our students. Our students deserve better, and the younger they are educated, the easier it will be for them to access higher education.  I am a problem solver that is ready to find creative solutions to offset our next year's budget challenge of millions in deficient due to low student enrollment. I kindly ask for you, your neighbor, friends and family's endorsement. PLEASE VOTE FOR "CINDY WU"

I am passionate and I have tools to help move this district forward by working together with my fellow board members to continuing the mental health services for our students, provided financial literacy so they could break the cycle of financial challenges, expand anti-bullying programs, and most importantly raise the bar for our students, our students deserve best. The more they are educated when they are a sponge as a young child, the easier their education will be moving into higher education.  I am a problem solver that is ready to find creative solutions to offset our next year's budget challenge of millions in deficient due to declining student enrollment. I kindly ask you as your neighbor for your endorsement so I can start working for the future of the community - our students.
