Biografía

Angelica Duenas, Mother & Peace Activist. Standing for Renters Rights. Our Cause is Justice~Nuestra Causa Es Justicia.

Angelica Dueñas is the Green Party candidate running for Congress in California District 29. As a Green, she accepts no corporate money, and so she is beholden to the people of her district and not big money interests. The 29th district includes Arleta, Granada Hills, Lake View Terrace, Mission Hills, North Hills, North Hollywood, Pacoima, Panorama City, San Fernando, Studio City, Sun Valley, Sylmar, Valley Village, Valley Glen and Van Nuys.

Angelica was born and raised in Sun Valley by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Dueñas, who immigrated from Mexico.

A defining event in Angelica's childhood was when her mother lost her job in 1997. Mrs. Dueñas had worked 21 years at the Price Pfister factory in Pacoima. During this time countless companies, and livelihoods, were driven out of our country, to never return, all this result of NAFTA. This family crisis sparked young Angelica's lifetime commitment to fight for social justice.

Angelica attended LAUSD schools; Roscoe ES, Byrd MS, and Polytechnic HS.

She earned a Human Resources Professional Certification from LAVC,  BA in Political Science-Public Administration from CSULA, and MA in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University. She is the first person in her family to achieve this level of education, her parents and family are very proud of this accomplishment.

Angelica is married to Henoc Sanchez since 2006, they divide their time between hard earned employment, political activism, and most importantly, raising five healthy children.

Presently, Angelica Dueñas is a contributing Board Member of the Sun Valley Neighborhood Council where she served two terms as President, one term as 2nd Vice President, and one term as 1st Vice President.

A huge turning point for Angelica was during the Bernie Sanders 2016 campaign. Prior to that Angelica was not interested in electoral politics, but rather local issues. While being elected and serving as a Delegate for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders at the Democratic National Convention during his legendary 2016 Presidential run precisely when Angelica confirmed the corruption of the two party system in America.

This painful and enlightening experience compelled her to officially join the Green Party and begin the work of political reform. During the Fall of 2016, Angelica was chosen from many candidates and hired as the Southern California Campaign Coordinator for the Jill Stein 2016 Presidential Campaign.

Today, Angelica is an active Council Member at the Green Party of Los Angeles County. Angelica is also a member of the Coordinating Committee of the Green Party of California and an Alternate Delegate to the GPUS Standing General Assembly.

Angelica is a part of the Federation of Young Greens of the Americas and a Delegate to the Global Young Greens representing the United States at the 2017 Global Greens Conference in Liverpool UK.

Angelica will advocate for a humane foreign policy that is based on the fundamentals of human dignity and peace.

We need and deserve a strong human rights activist in Congress. Angelica Duenas is that person.

Preguntas y Respuestas

Preguntas de League of Women Voters of California Education Fund (5)

What financing method(s) would you support to repair or improve roads, rails, ports, airports, the electrical grid and other infrastructure in the U.S.?
Respuesta de Angelica Maria Dueñas:

WE will work to decrease our military spending where currently 54% of our discretionary budget goes towards.

WE will make sure that Wall Street pays its fair share. WE will work to incorporate a Financial Transaction Tax to ensure that no low-middle income wage earners pay more as a percentage of their income to taxes than higher income wage earners do:

     0.5% on Stocks

     0.1% on Bonds

     0.005% on Derivatives

0.001% on all other Financial Securities

For example, in the LAST SEVEN business days of December, the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) had $213,954,582,805 worth of Stock Trades. If there were a financial transaction tax of 0.5% on those stocks, that would equate to $1,069,772,914 worth of revenue generated to go towards education.

That could cover 66,092 undergraduate students going to Cal State University of Los Angeles (CSULA), and only 27,000 are enrolled per year! That could also cover 47,791 undergraduate students going to UCLA for a year.

AND that's only SEVEN DAYS worth of trading from ONE stock exchange.

What programs or legislation, if any, would you support to help Americans of all ages secure affordable health care?
Respuesta de Angelica Maria Dueñas:

Providing Medicare for ALL via Single Payer is what we should be aiming for and it is NOT a radical idea at all, especially since everyone else is doing it. How do those other countries pay for it? Well... they actually make the top 1% pay their fair share and don't have the bureaucracy of the Health Insurance industry.

We could pay for Medicare for ALL by increasing personal income taxes on top 5% income earners, an additional 2% tax on those who make more than $250,000 (2% of the population) in taxable income and a 6% premium on large billionaire multinational corporations. The rest of the funding needed would be through authorization of funds through the Federal Reserve. As stated, Single Payer would save $570 billion a year in reduced overhead, monopoly profits, and administrative costs from the bureaucracy we call the Health Insurance Industry. In addition, many Americans and small/medium sized businesses will be relieved in the long-run of the financial burden of providing and receiving healthcare coverage.

Describe an immigration policy that you would support if presented to the House.
Respuesta de Angelica Maria Dueñas:

We are a nation of immigrants, and some of our most valued possessions came from the minds of immigrants. As Americans, we must be welcoming to those just like our parents, those that come from a past we will never fully understand, and those that just want to provide the best for themselves and their children.

For those that want to come in this country with documentation, we commend you for working hard in your current country, saving up money in order to live the U.S. with Documented status. For the 11 million undocumented immigrants (3% of the U.S. population) who are here currently, we must allow them to come out of the shadows without fear of deportation and hefty financial penalties. Many have escaped from a country where war, crime, and poverty has overcome their homes, which we can take a part of responsibility through U.S. Imperialism, bad trade deals, and wars. We should be uniting families not separating them.

WE recognizes that it is very difficult for immigrants, documented and undocumented, under our outdated immigration system to become a U.S. Citizen and to come out of the shadows. We recognize that change can happen only from the bottom-up, and not from the top-down. With our election into Congress, we will mobilize millions of Americans of all races, especially the Latinx and Immigrant community to fight for the change they need one election at a time. These people will elect officials who recognize the importance of comprehensive immigration reform and will seek a welcoming path to citizenship.

What programs or legislation would you support to meet the water needs of Californians and the federal water project infrastructure in California?
Respuesta de Angelica Maria Dueñas:

Water is a human right, not a commodity for private corporations to profit from. We will work to limit the privatization of water.

WE will expand water conservation efforts in drought-stricken states and invest in water conservation infrastructure and programs.

WE will invest in environmentally-friendly water infrastructure.

According to a "Civility In America” survey, 75% of Americans believe that the U.S. has a major civility problem. If you are elected what will do to address this?
Respuesta de Angelica Maria Dueñas:

We believe that we need to change the way we teach. We believe that we need to introduce "Civility Courses" along with the basics of Language, Math, History, Science and the Arts. We need to ensure that our scholars learn how to respect/be tolerant of each other.  We need to focus on the importance of showing respect to others and to treat them as you want to be treated. We need to teach the value of life and the humanity of each other ... this is the only way we can gain peace and understanding amongst our youth, country and around the world. We believe that there is an importance in teaching kindness and peacefulness.

Creencias poliza

Filosofía política

Our campaign wants to give an option to a community that has been overlooked for too long. We want to raise the standard on how we want campaign contributions to look like by not accepting corporate donations. We are 100% corporate free and 100% beholden to the people in our district. We belive that we need to repeal Citizens United and push for government funded elections. We believe that housing, healthcare, and education are human rights. We beleive that we need to support more non-politicians to run for office. We beleive that change is in our hands.
