My Political Philosophy on Education- Education is the Great equalizer in Life

Summary

My political philosophy on education is: Education is the great equalizer in life!

My political philosophy on education is "equality"; Education is the great equalizer in life. In a democracy we are all obligated to keep public education "free", 'available to all", and "we must always strive to improve the quality of education in our schools". I have always been a civically active parent that believes in publice education. Our two daughters graduated from Hayward High School in Hayward, California. Our educational system is based on the Greek Ideal of "mind, body, and soul". A-G requirements (basics = mind) + Physical Education (body) + Music, Art, Philosophy/Literature (electives-Soul) for a well-rounded quality education. Equity ensures culturally releveny curriculum and both intervention and enrichment for all students. I believe in having expectations of our students, students need to know we have faith in their success, and their success and achievements should be recognized.

I fully support the Democratic party's stance on education: "Provide an excellent and equitable education for all students, ...". I also support the Democratic Party's stance on Culture and Arts; "Restore arts and humanities efforts at all educational levels.

I believe when our local school districts reach their full potential for all and are held accountable, our students, educators, and community benefits".

Proven Leadership Skills and Abilities to understand and address the challeges of the Alameda County School Districts...

Summary

I have the proven leadership skills and abilities to understand and address the challenges of the Alameda County School Districts. My leadership skills and abilities span military, employment, volunteerism and elected office; I have always improved the conditions of whatever situation I have been involved in.

I have the proven leadership skills and abilities to understand the challenges of the Alameda County School Districts. My leadership skills and abilities span military, employment, volunteerism, and elected office. My board of education experience includes 8-years as an elected member of the Hayward Unified School Board (2010-2018). During that time I learned how districts and school boards conduct business, including how to oversee the educational needs of all students. Improving the working conditions of educators and the learning conditions of students was a main objective. Some of my accomplishments include: positive certification, the re-instatement of art and music, increased before and after school programs, introduction of “Safe and Inclusive Schools Program” and, introduction of career pathways, “Engineering” and “Biomedical”. I understand budgets and know financial stability is necessary in all aspects of education. I believe hard work and dedication results in improved education and improved educational opportunities for our students which results in an improved future for everyone.

As a civically active parent of Hayward High School graduates I served as PTSA President, helped start the Hayward High Athletic Boosters and the Hayward High Museum. I have also volunteered on several bond and parcel tax committees for Hayward schools, libraries and city services. I also served 8-years on the Hayward Library Commission, and as HUSD Representative for City of Hayward Successor Agency. I serve/served on various citizens’ advisory committees:  Hayward Promise Neighborhood/HPN since 2012, Highlands Neighborhood Task Force, Neighborhood Watch, etc. Hayward Education Foundation Secretary, and continue to support HUSD as a member of the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee, and School Usage Design Team. As a Marine Corps Veteran I serve as 1st Vice Commander, American Legion Post 870 Hayward.
