Having grown up in Minnesota and earning a doctorate in Mathematics from the University Illinois, Joe Grcar moved to the Bay Area forty years ago for a career in scientific research at the government ``energy'' laboratories in Livermore and Berkeley. He is the author of many scientific publications about computational mathematics, and more recently about mathematics education and the history of mathematics.

Joe became involved in politics when President Trump went down the golden escalator.

He ran for California Assembly district 20 in 2018. For doing so, he became a member of the Alameda County Republican central committee and a delegate to the California Republican Party convention.

He applies his research skills to analyze what he saw there.

Joe is also an active member of the Alameda County Taxpayers Association, the League of Women Voters, and the Sierra Club.

Filosofía política

I want our local politicians to put Southern Alameda County FIRST, but sadly, often they do not.

Political History of Alameda County

Summary

Alameda County and its once-leading city of Oakland have been amazingly consequential for American politics after World War II. We can thank the vanished old guard of the county Republican Party for prolonging a social order which gave us the Black Panther Party, block-busting, and white flight to the tri-valleys of San Ramon, Amador, and Livermore. The most divisive political battle in California history began and played out right here. Amazingly, the new guard of the county Democrat Party also followed Oakland-centric policies, though less successfully, which have left Alameda the poorest and most rapidly failing county of the Bay Area. Truly independent redistricting of supervisory districts are a faint hope to yank the county out of its downward spiral.

Recent History of the Alameda County Republican Party

Summary

In order to understand the county Republican Party it is necessary to know how county and state parties are legally organized, and how the tension between a pragmatic establishment versus an ideological grassroots has roiled California and county Republican parties since Reagan if not before. Because of the structure of the state party, its diminishing electoral success places greater pressure on county parties to root out grassroots members. This has produced epic conflicts within the Alameda party, including lawsuits to expel members, illegal campaign contributions, and even billionaires buying elections. You can’t make this stuff up, and it is still going on in our backyard.
