My Top 3 Priorities

  • Complete the construction of seismically safe, sustainable new school buildings
  • Balance the budget
  • Bridge differences that have split the school community by working together on common concerns

Univesity of California at Berkeley Ph.D., Energy and Resources (1986)

I have been an active volunteer in the Albany schools for many years and have taken a leadership role in nearly every one of those volunteer activities. For me, leadership is about listening to different points of view, bridging differences, finding common goals, and working together. As an AUSD Board member, I have worked with 13 other Board members and three superintendents to build a shared vision and establish long-term policies, stable budgets, and effective operations. Here is my Albany school experience:

AUSD Board of Education, 2004 – 2008 (president or vice-president 4 years) and 2014 – 2018

AUSD Strategic Plan Committee and Albany Pool Sustainability Committee (chair), 2009

SchoolCARE Board of Directors, 2001 – 2004

AMS PTA, president, 2001 – 2004

Albany PTA Council, co-president, 2000 – 2003

AUSD Budget Advisory and Budget Review committees, 2000 – 2004

Volunteer, parcel tax campaigns, 1999, 2005, 2009, 2014

Cornell PTA (co-president 1997 – 1999 and treasurer, 1999 – 2001),
1991 - 2001

Cornell Elementary Site Council (member and chair, 1995 – 1997)
