Council Member Sara Lamnin was elected to serve on Hayward City Council in June 2014. During her first term in office, she has lead on issues regarding affordable housing, economic development, homelessness, public finances, and public safety. Since 2015, she has been involved in a statewide policy committee for the League of California Cities addressing governance, transparency, and labor relations, including as Chair from 2016-2018. She is also a member of the City’s Budget and Finance Committee, Local Agencies Committee (with representatives from the School and Recreation Districts) and serves as the City’s delegate to StopWaste and
AC Transit - Central Alameda County Policy Advisory Committee.

With 25 Years in public service and community organizing, Sara is passionate about bringing in diverse perspectives and giving voice to businesses, neighborhood and faith leaders, as well as students, parents, teachers and other community stakeholders into the
decisions being made at City Hall. On the City Council, she has championed efforts to increase government accountability and transparency, by leading the practice of including public comment periods during work sessions and releasing agenda packets and documents to the public earlier for their access and review.

Sara is committed to making Hayward an Environmental and Sustainability Leader that is prepared to take on the challenges of the future. On City Council, Sara is proud to have a 100% voting record to increase renewable energy in our City and to reduce our city’s carbon footprint. Sara has also been a leader in promoting the creation of safe, complete, smart, and affordable communities for every Hayward resident and has voted to restore critical services, improve traffic safety, and modernize outdated equipment and departments.

As a long time mentor and volunteer to students of all ages, Sara believes in improving Hayward schools, expanding career awareness, and increasing business opportunities. During her time in office she has mentored more than a dozen interns from local high schools, colleges, and non-profit programs. Sara has worked to build consensus with the business community, to streamline the permitting process and improve services for local business owners.

Sara received her Bachelors of Science in Recreation Therapy from San Francisco State in 1996. She graduated with honors from CSU Hayward with a Masters in Health Care Administration in 2006. Sara Lamnin is a graduate of several leadership training programs
including Leadership Hayward, Emerge California, and the University of Pittsburgh. Sara is the proud granddaughter of immigrants and lives in Downtown Hayward with her husband Jon.
